Today marked a significant milestone in Kenya's electoral journey as ELGIA, in partnership with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC), the Kenya Editors Guild and the Kenya Union of Journalists, convened a crucial consultative meeting with media organizations.
What we accomplished:
- Confirmed certainty for 2027 general elections;
- Addressed critical electoral processes including pending boundary delimitation;
- Discussed budget optimization while maintaining high standards;
- Emphasised media security and protection frameworks;
- Acknowledged technology challenges including AI-generated disinformation; and
- Proposed collaborative civic education initiatives.
Our Commitment:
Mr Felix Odhiambo, ELGIA's Executive Director, emphasized our continued partnership, building on the successful collaboration that characterized the 2022 elections.
Together, we're not just preparing for elections – we're strengthening the very foundations of Kenyan democracy.
