Follow-Up on the Implementation of Recommendations (FURIC) workshop
The Follow-Up on the Implementation of Recommendations (FURIC) workshop, held from October 24th – 25th, 2024 brought together stakeholders to discuss electoral reforms in Kenya ahead of the 2027 General Elections. Organized by ELGIA in collaboration with ELOG, the workshop emphasized the need for a clear roadmap to address issues such as election administration, voter education, participation of marginalized groups, election technology, and campaign financing.
Stakeholders highlighted the urgency of consolidating observer reports from the 2022 elections and developing strategies to engage Parliament, the IEBC, and other institutions to advocate for minimum reforms. Key challenges identified included a lack of political goodwill, funding constraints, and the polarized political environment. Recommendations included the establishment of an election training institute, enhancing voter education, and promoting inclusivity through affirmative action and civic education.
Discussions also addressed the regulation of political party processes, election technology, and the role of media in combating misinformation. The workshop underscored the importance of transparency, collaboration, and resource mobilization to ensure a credible electoral process. By developing an inclusive and participatory framework, stakeholders aim to foster trust and strengthen democratic processes for the 2027 elections.
