ELGIA supports IEBC joint working retreat workshop on Electoral Reform Agenda and Electoral Boundaries, following the Supreme Court's Advisory Opinion.
ELGIA through the British High Commission (BHC) is supporting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) in a three-day joint working retreat workshop in Naivasha, aimed on sensitizing the Commission regarding the Electoral Reform Agenda and Electoral Boundaries, following the Supreme Court's Advisory Opinion.
Today, the workshop kicked off with an overview of the progress made on legal reforms to date, significant court cases that have influenced electoral processes, and presentations on draft proposals including the (Elections) Amendment Bill 2024.
The agenda also includes a review of the Elections Offences (Amendment) Offences Act, the County Governments Election Laws (Amendment) Bill 2024, as well as discussions on the election regulations.
This is facilitated for onward submission to Parliament for validation and legislation in preparation for the 2027 General Elections. An initiative in line with the Kenya Institutional Strengthening Program (KISP) support on Elections in Kenya.
