ELGIA Facilitates a Reflection Meeting for InfoTrak’s Nationwide Survey
The Electoral Law and Governance Institute for Africa (ELGIA) hosted a pivotal stakeholder meeting to present findings from a comprehensive nationwide perception study conducted by InfoTrak. The survey delved deep into public trust in government institutions, including the IEBC, and explored critical aspects of Kenya’s governance landscape.
InfoTrak’s Founder and Group CEO, Angela Ambitho, highlighted that the study was designed to address three crucial objectives: measuring public confidence in state institutions, identifying pressing national concerns with a focus on corruption and service delivery, and analysing civil engagement patterns across the country.
The survey findings, presented by InfoTrak’s Public Policy Manager Raphael Mulwe, revealed significant insights about the state of public trust in both government institutions, civil society organizations, the media among other entities. A key highlight was the comprehensive analysis of citizens’ access to information and their participation in democratic processes, painting a picture of the current state of civic engagement in Kenya.
The research also provided valuable data on whether Kenyans believe the nation is moving in the right or wrong direction, offering crucial insights for policymakers and stakeholders. The study’s demographic approach ensured a thorough understanding of how different segments of society perceive and interact with governance structures.
During the forum’s plenary session, stakeholders from the media, and civil society organizations engaged in robust discussions about the findings and their implications for Kenya’s democratic future. The session was enriched by expert insights from ELGIA’s Executive Director, Felix Odhiambo, and Electoral Law and Governance Specialist, Lucianna Thuo, who provided context on how these findings align with ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic institutions.
