ELGIA convened a Stakeholders consultative workshop that runs from the 1st to 3rd of March 2020 at Sarova Woodlands Hotel Nakuru. The workshop is aimed at undertaking a Legal review of the Political Parties Act.

Present are Key stakeholders including The PPLC, IEBC, PPDT & ORPP. The main objective is to give Key Stakeholders an opportunity to cross polinate & interact with the legislation and highlight the challenges, gaps, archievements, including areas of reform in a bid to cure issues that affect the implementation & regulation of the statute.

Currently underway, the delegates are interrogating the Act and giving recommendations on ammendment proposals. Public participation is a constitutional requirement that allows key stakeholders to make contributions on laws that have a direct impact on them.

The output of the workshop is to come up with Amendment proposals in the form of a legal framework and the ultimate Consolidation of a draft Amendment Bill. The workshop is funded by UKAID under the Deepening Democracy Program.
